RRU Innovative Learning Days announced

Join Dr. Phillip Vannini, Canada Research Chair in Innovative Learning and Public Ethnography for a series of three "Innovative Learning Days" on the RRU campus over the coming weeks.These 3-hour workshop-style metings will be hosted by Royal Roads University's School of Communication & Culture and Phillip Vannini.

Session 1: October 19 at 1:30 in the Center for Dialogue

Dr. Phillip Vannini will share what he's learned about taking ethnography to the public, the ways ethnographers and journalists can work together, and how he gets the most coverage for his work studying people who live off-the-grid in Canada.

 

Session 2: November 19 in the Center for Dialogue

9:00am-10:30am
Catherine Etmanski (Core Faculty, MALT) will present on the values and strategies of community-based research.

3:00pm-4:30pm
Dwayne Beaver will explore the narrative paradigms of fiction (drama and comedy), documentary, reality, journalism and ethnography, and how the same facts might be interpreted through each of these paradigms.

 

Session 3: January (date TBA)

These are open to anyone interested in innovative approaches to sharing knowledge, and the workshops will cover topics such as:

  • utilizing old and new media to disseminate research;
  • blending social sciences and arts;
  • translation, transfer, and mobilization of knowledge;
  • publication of research in academic and popular outlets.
